The photograph shows Newstead, a house on the corner of Ratcliffe Road and Newstead Road built c1898 for William Abell of dyers Kershaw and Abell, Granby Road, Aylestone.

After the Second World War it passed to Edwin Wildt of hosiery machine builders Wildt & Co and was then used by the Catholic Order of St Clare (known as the Poor Clares) as a convent and school.

It was finally demolished to allow the development of the St Thomas More Primary School, now the St Thomas More Catholic Voluntary Academy.
