Elmfield – Lost and Now Found

Our feature story for this newsletter is `Elmfield – Lost and Now Found’ which opens a window on the early Victorian house which gave Elmfield Road its name.  Here is a brief excerpt, or you can download the full newsletter.

One of the joys of our ongoing research project, `The Lost Houses of Stoneygate’, is that, from time to time, someone will contact us with a fascinating piece of information about a long-demolished property or perhaps some photographs – or if we are very lucky, both.

This was the case a few months ago when we were approached by Mr John Richardson, who had been pleasantly surprised to find a feature on Elmfield while browsing the new SCAS website.

Mr Richardson is a descendant of the family that lived at Elmfield in the latter part of the Victorian era and told us that he had further material on both the house and its occupants which he would be happy to share, should we be interested.

Our enthusiastic response resulted in much intriguing new information and some of the most impressive period photographs that we have ever received.
